Our Darjeeling Blend is a Fresh, Medium strength Tea with a Sweet, Slightly Malty flavor profile. It is good for any time of day and all types of tea lovers.
This blend is made up of three types of black tea, equal amounts of each. While all tea comes from one type of tea bush, all tea tastes different based on where and how that tea bush was grown. We put love and attention into creating this blend so it is perfect to the last drop.
Each part being equal in this tea means each type of tea is a star, no type is playing second fiddle.
Our first type comes from all the way at 7,000 feet in the Mirik Valley in the Himalayas of India. Our small family farm is a part of the Darjeeling small growers society. This society was put together to empower small family tea farms since the area is heavy with big tea companies and poor labor conditions. The growers society believes in sustainable natural farming and fair treatment of their employees. This love for their people and farm translates into the teas they create, as it is handled with love. The plants are grown at a high elevation with lots of sunlight and cold night temperatures. This slows the growing process so the leaves are more tender and gives them a slightly dry yet fruity flavor.
The second type in this blend comes from the low lying and humid area of the Sonitpur District of India. This tea is grown less than 200 feet above sea level in an area that is very humid and known for its monsoon rains. The grower is a small family farm headed up by two brothers and one of their wives. They believe in natural, sustainable farming practices and hand picking their leaves. The humidity, rain and growing practices give this tea its malty and robust flavor profile.
The final tea that makes up this blend comes from Nilgiris District of India. This small family farm sits at 6,800 feet. They believe in natural fertilizers and sustainable farming practices. They also hand pick their tea leaves. This teas flavor profile is smooth and mild with notes of bergamot orange and sweet raspberries. The combination of the growers knowledge and love, the altitude, rich volcanic soil and abundant rains is what gives this tea its flavors.
